Wild Turkey 5K Trail Run and Walk

CAUTION
The Wild Turkey 5K is a true trail run, with most of the course being through the woods, a
portion on grassland, and some paved footing at the soccer park. Expect some loose footing, tree roots
and possible debris on the trail (e.g., twigs, gum balls, loose gravel, rocky footing etc.) and adapt your
stride and speed accordingly.
Schedule
6:45am – 7:45am All On-Site runners will need to check at the Registration table to get their race bib necessary for the chip timing in use for 2023. Timing is provided by Uwharrie Dash, and only registered On-Site event runners will be timed.
6:45am – 7:45am race package pick-up available – please pick up at early locations on 9/21 and 9/22 if possible.
6:45am – 7:45am Register ‘on the day’ runners (cash or local check for registration fee preferred)
7:45 – 8:00am Organize Race Start
8:00am Wild Turkey 5K Race – They’re Off!!
8:20 – 9:00am Runners’ and walkers’ Finish
9:15am - Results announcements (medal awards), Logo Contest Winner prize award, and On-Site prize drawings (beside the Greenhouse at the race ‘FINISH’)- must be present to win!
9:40am - Enjoy all the other offerings of the Heritage Festival! Go to Room A in the Agriculture
Center to use your raffle ticket provided at Registration to try to win a great item!
Parking
On Saturday, September 23,2023, Heritage Festival vendor set up will be occurring concurrent with starting the Wild Turkey 5K. Roads may be busy!
Racers will use Presson Road to drive around in front of the Agriculture Center to the rear parking area, and then turn across the lowest section of the parking lot. Follow signs for RACE TRAFFIC and then RACE PARKING signs that will direct you to Cultivation Circle. Turn left and head up the hill to the parking spaces at the Simpson Event Center, which will be available for race parking.
Race Bag Pick Up and Race Check in/Registration will be visible at the top of Cultivation Circle, then proceed to the Race Start area.
Restrooms
Restrooms will be available in both the Agriculture Center and Special Events Center buildings before the race. Look for ‘Restroom’ signs to help locate the facilities.

The Trail is marked with RED arrows on the ground

Directional signs have BLUE arrows and informational messages

Stay on the Trail – NO shortcuts (respect the natural habitat)

Heed caution signs

Water Station at entry and exit to the Soccer Complex portion of the course (@ 2.1K and 3.0K)

Restrooms @2.6K (in red building)

No littering – there will be a trash can at Water Station

The Union County Amateur Radio Society will have on-course spotters at each kilometer; if you need assistance while on the course, contact a spotter and they will be able to radio for help.
